The state has created a new tax credit for businesses that hire veterans. This was developed, because the state's veterans have a higher unemployment rate than the national average. So, if a business hires an unemployed veteran, they would be entitled to up to a 20% tax credit of the employee's wages and benefits. However, this tax credit cannot exceed more than $1500 per new hire veteran employee. This would be an even higher amount if an employer could join this state tax credit with the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit, that can also apply to veterans. More info on this new state tax credit can found at this link, http://dor.wa.gov/Docs/Pubs/SpecialNotices/2016/sn_unemployed_vets.pdf
Have a good one.
