In this state, beginning Apr. 18th, if you were laid off due to this Coronavirus, then you will be eligible for an extra $600 per week in addition to what you are making now per week on unemployment compensation. So, for example, if you are currently receiving $300 per week for unemployment then you will soon be receiving an extra $600 per week.
Also, if you had applied for unemployment and found out you didn’t have the necessary 680 hours in your base year (Jan to Dec 2019), then as of Apr. 18th, that 680 hours requirement will not be there. So, if you applied before and were rejected because of the 680 hours requirement, then re-apply after the 18th.
This law is retroactive to when the law was signed. It lasts until July 31st, 2020. More info at this link, https://esd.wa.gov/newsroom/retroactive-payments

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was passed by the U.S. Congress and made law on March 27th, 2020. Part of the CARES Act was designed to help the people directly. One way was to help with the tax stimulus of about $1200 per tax paying adult and $500 for eligible dependents that everyone knows about. A lesser known way to help was to aid those laid off during this virus situation.
