The application process is indeed long and costly, and the chances of getting hired are very minimal. The online application process is not difficult, but I heard someone did hers incorrectly and it delayed her application. Then you have to drive to Seattle (a cost of about $50 with gas and ferry fees) to take the test. The test covers several kinds of postal jobs now, and takes an hour to complete on a computer. Quite a change from the old days of pencil and paper tests in a stadium full of people. I then had to go back to Seattle a couple weeks later, with three days notice, to take the drug test. If you don't take the drug test in those three days your application is no longer valid for that position. After all of that, I heard there was a hiring freeze on the position I wanted.
